A bit more about me 💡

I’m originally from Iceland, but I’ve been living in Copenhagen since 2017. I'm a Software Engineer, working as a Growth Engineering Manager at Famly- a Copenhagen based start-up creating the early childhood platform. I started at Famly as a frontend engineer, and then slowly moved into a full stack role. On a daily basis, I work with TypeScript, React, Scala, CI/CD, functional programming, and more fun stuff.

Before Famly, I worked as a software developer in the internal tech team at Precis Digital - a Scandinavian Digital Marketing agency - where I learned a ton about digital marketing, and built internal optimization tools operating on very large datasets. I met a ton of great people there that have shaped me a lot.

I have a BSc in Software Engineering from the University of Iceland, and a MSc in Computer Science with focus on algorithms and NLP from the IT University of Copenhagen. Through my studies I fell in love with programming, and I also got deeply interested in algorithms, complexity theory, machine learning and NLP. At ITU, I wrote my master's thesis on Multilingual Hate Speech and Offensive Language Detection. Me and my thesis supervisor also co-authored a paper on the topic, and a local Danish newspaper, Politiken, used some of our work in an articlethey wrote.

Even though I immensely enjoyed the academic aspect of my studies (machine learning, NLP, and algorithms), I’ve always been deeply fascinated by start-ups and getting a chance to solve real problems for real people, and that's how I ended up at Famly, where I've learned the ins and outs of building a software product used by hundreds of thousands of people. I learned how to get shit done, and gained some valuable product-sense while working with inspiring people that have taught me a lot.

These days I'm very excited about product-led growth, data driven methods, fast iteration and experimentation, functional programming and learning how to build a great team. I'm a technology nerd at heart and spend a good chunk of my free time exploring new and old technologies.
